Praise in Brokenness

It would be so easy to wallow in the pain that a CHD diagnosis brings. But what good would that do? It would open us up for isolation, anxiety, doubt, and fear and that’s not what God wants for us.

Brian and I have chosen to praise the Lord for our broken hearts.

Why?

Because our broken hearts draw us closer to Him. Our broken hearts help us recognize that He loves us enough to never leave us or forsake us. He loves us enough to orchestrate our every step. Our pain brings us to a place where we need Him more now than we ever have.

The other reason is that this side of Heaven is the only time that we get to praise Jesus through our pain. Think about it. When we are in Heaven, we won't experience pain or brokenness anymore. We have a unique privilege to CHOOSE to bring Him glory when our hearts are broken. It's a wonderful beauty from ashes moment that only happens here.

Now, we are not selfish enough to think we are the only ones facing pain. We know people who read this blog post are struggling with their own versions of hard. I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that I believe that we can have our feelings, but we cannot let our feelings have us. Every time we feel overwhelmed by our situations, it’s our cue to run to the Father. Sprint if you have to. He is there. And he’s not going anywhere.

Choose to sing hallelujah for the broken heart…whether it breaks from the pain or it’s physically broken like Lucas’s.

“The LORD is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
