Yesterday was the 4 year anniversary of Lucas's Glenn surgery. At just 5 months old, this was his third open heart surgery.
Today, it hit me that it has been 4 years since he's had a heart surgery. Now, we are 2 months away from getting his Fontan surgery. Hopefully this will be his last one, but as heart parents we have learned that everyone's journey is different and there is no way to predict for sure what medical challenges the future will bring.
Looking back now on that day, the word that comes to mind is faithfulness. God was faithful through it all and has remained faithful through every part of our journey.
Last week, we met with several families back at MUSC and had the opportunity to hear their stories and how their children were doing, who are currently in the hospital just like we were. We got to pray for them and encourage them through a book that Katie has written for heart families. What I hope they are learning, and I know we are still learning, is that the journey is bumpy and unpredictable, but our God is faithful through it all. He made your heart warrior for a purpose, and made you their parent for a purpose. We don't have it all together, but we can trust fully in the faithfulness of the One who does, and has a purpose for your journey and your child's story.
Psalm 91:4 He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Remember God's got this,
-Brian
