The day Lucas was born was a day that will be etched in my brain forever. A day that was full of fear. I had to be airlifted from Spartanburg to MUSC and hope and pray that Brian and my mom would be able to get to Charleston by car before Lucas was born. After he was born, the fear didn't subside, but was replaced with other things to worry about.
The Bible says, "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you." (Isaiah 26:3)
The word keep reminds us that the peace of God isn't going away unless you move. It's a promise we can bank on when we stay centered on the Lord.
The Hebrew word for stayed is sawmak which means to prop or lean on without falter. Isaiah says our mind should sawmak, or focus, on the Lord.
So what does your mind focus on?
I can promise you that when I was up in the air, my mind was not fixed on God. When Lucas was transferred to PCICU and his tiny bed was surrounded by massive machines and wires and beep, beep, beeping. My mind was fixated on the problem. Honestly, not my best moments (even though I'd bet that's an incredibly normal response).
The truth is, Satan would love nothing more than for you to set your mind on anything other than God. When you focus on your fear, uncertainty, or mishaps, the devil wins. This is because wherever your mind focuses, your trust lies.
But there's a much better truth to listen to. Jesus wants to take your pieces and show you what peace is. He is the one who can make beauty from your ashes. I don't know about you, but that's where I would rather put my trust!
Trust begins in your mind and then shows up in your actions. The first step is to take those broken pieces and lay them at the foot of the cross so that Jesus can fill your with His perfect peace!
Oh how I wish I could go back and tell that to myself all those years ago when I let my fear replace my trust! Will you let the Lord make a masterpiece of peace in you?
With HEARTfelt love,
Katie
