Into the Unknown

This picture was taken just minutes before Lucas was whisked away for his first open heart surgery at just 5 days old. We had no idea what was going to happen. We only knew that we would be separated for hours from our child not knowing what was going to happen to him or how our lives would look differently afterward. I remember swallowing a large lump in my throat when the anesthesiologists promised that they would take good care of him. When the room was empty of his bed, Brian and I just looked at each other with the most terrified looks on our faces, not knowing what to do next. But do you know that in those moments something amazing yet totally predictable happened. God went with Lucas to the part of the hospital that I will never see. He guided the surgeon's hands in every move of the scalpel. And at the same exact time, He calmed my heart. He met me in my tangled web of emotions while he simultaneously strengthened my husband's heart to encourage me AND protect my son's life while he underwent his first of several operations. He did all of those things because He is just that good and faithful and wonderful and gracious to us!

Next time, you're wondering where He is, remember that He is in many many places, working on many many things, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is for your good!

Romans 8:28 - "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

With HEARTfelt love,

Katie
